Tools of choice for the Lazy Gardener
The Asian Hand Cultivator (also known as a Ho Mi) is probably my favourite tool of the trade. Being a self-confessed Lazy Gardener I have found this tool to be invaluable. It takes the place of a trowel, transplanter, fork, cultivator and pointy stick! I use it for hacking and lifting weeds, turning the soil in my vege beds, chasing Brush Turkeys (only joking) and creating runnels for seed. It’s light, fits well in your hand and looks good too. It’s one of those tools that, once you own one, you’ll wonder how you ever did without it. Recently a friend said that even though she has a number of tools in the garden shed, she went out and bought red spray paint to mark specifically the cultivator because she would hate to lose it!

I agree, I have had one for many years and it is most certainly my tool of choice
A ho mi on a long handle (like rake handle) is even better if your beds aren’t raised. I use it as a hoe for weed control, for making furrows for planting or digging transplanting holes
